A Word from the Founders

To all of those who ask: "Why a foundation ?"
We reply: "Why this particular foundation ?"
For us, creating a foundation was self-evident.

We thought about what its mission should be, and quickly concluded on a double objective: to improve the living conditions of underprivileged populations and, at the same time, restore their environment. Because everything is linked, and the most severe suffering is always found in countries with the most degraded environment.

We also wanted to support long term actions, even beyond the scope of our own intervention. Thus our projects naturally follow the lines of the only possible form of development, sustainable development.

Finally, we named this foundation "Ensemble", which means "Together", to evoke the link that unites us all. Our children, the ones who will carry these projects in the future; the organizations that act as the vehicles for our projects; the Foundation’s team and its director, Olivier Braunsteffer; and of course the members of our Board of Directors and our College of Experts.

We founders are active in the life of our foundation on daily basis, and carefully analyze every programme. Today this dynamic movement we have created has become a fundamental part of our life. It is also, above all, a great source of joy.

Gérard Brémond is the founder, chairman-CEO and main shareholder of Pierre & Vacances, a French company listed on the Paris Stock Exchange since 1999. Jacqueline Délia-Brémond, his wife, is a publisher.

Gérard has worked in the tourist accommodation construction sector with a keen interest in architecture; in 1967 he designed and created the Avoriaz ski resort. He went on to build other holiday resorts in several French touristic regions, in the mountains and on the coast.

Pierre & Vacances subsequently expanded its business activities in tourism through the acquisition of operators in the field, including Adagio, Citea, Sun Parcs, Les hôtels Latitude, Maeva, and, more recently, Center Parcs. Pierre & Vacances is currently the leading European company in the holiday accommodation market sector.

Gérard Brémond and his wife, Jacqueline Délia-Brémond , who works in publishing, had long cherished the idea of being involved in public interest work. Their children, Delphine, Nathalie and Olivier, share their enthusiasm and support the initiative. They decided to turn their wish into a reality by creating the Fondation Ensemble.
